FAQs

How long will the graduate programme last?

The graduate programme lasts two years, after which it is anticipated that you will obtain a position within the company that best fits your skills and the business requirements.

How long will it take to achieve a professional qualification?

The length of time can vary depending upon the qualification being studied. For example, the Chartered Insurance Institute qualification (ACII) can take two to three years, depending on whether you have any exemptions for exams. For further information, please go to www.cii.co.uk.

Where will I be located?

You will be based at our Bishopsgate office, in the heart of the City of London.

How many UCAS points do I need?

UCAS points are not among our selection criteria. The minimum academic requirement is a 2:1 degree (expected or achieved) in any discipline.

When should I apply?

The 2009 graduate recruitment process is now open.

When is the latest I can apply?

The closing date for applications is Monday 12 January 2009.

When will I hear if my application is successful?

We will acknowledge receipt of your application. If you are successful at this first stage we will contact you by Friday 16 January to invite you to a telephone interview. Following this we will be in regular contact throughout the remainder of the process advising you of further timelines as appropriate.

What should I include in the 'Additional Information' section?

This is the most important section of the entire application form so please aim to impress. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your awareness of Brit and your commitment to your chosen career. Do your research! Think about how your skills will benefit the business and most of all show your enthusiasm!

Can I send in my CV?

No. We only accept fully completed application forms.

Do you accept applications from candidates who require work permits?

We have found it extremely difficult in the past to successfully obtain work permits for graduates. We often suggest that you return to your native country to gain specific technical skills, and then try to apply for UK jobs when you can offer something extra. In the meantime, it may be worth contacting the Home Office to find out exactly what the criteria is for granting work permits so you can tailor your application appropriately.

How do I contact Brit?

If you have a query regarding your application please email careers@britinsurance.com and include a daytime telephone number. We will reply to you by telephone or email as soon as we can. Please be aware that during busy times in the recruitment season we may not be able to respond to you on the same day.

If I am successful when would I be expected to start?

The 2009 graduate programme will commence on 5 October 2009.
