Brit Insurance launches Brit Absence Management and Rehabilitation
New complimentary product for EL policyholders
October 9, 2008
Brit Insurance Holdings PLC, ("Brit Insurance" or "The Group"), the UK-based international general insurance and reinsurance group, is pleased to announce the launch of the Brit Absence Management and Rehabilitation service. In recognition of the major benefits that rehabilitation can bring to its commercial clients, Brit Insurance is making this service available, free of charge, to all Employers' Liability policyholders, from small businesses to FTSE 250 customers, whether that cover is stand-alone or part of a Combined or Package product.
The new product is an efficient way of controlling employee absence and its associated costs through its two main components, absence management and rehabilitation services.
Absence Management is a proactive service that provides early intervention, becoming valid after an employee has been absent for more than three days. Through assessing injury or illness and consulting closely with the insured, it provides a cost-effective and efficient plan to help employees get back to work. If the employee is able to return to work within one month, the service will not appear on the policy's claims experience unless there is a formal claim. Employees who are unable to return to work within a month will receive treatment through Brit Rehabilitation.
Brit Rehabilitation's comprehensive offering includes medical services, liability investigation and back-to-work planning for employees who are absent, or are likely to be absent, for more than one month. Calling upon the expertise of more than 300 doctors and specialist health professionals nationwide, Brit Rehabilitation cuts out delays for vital scans and tests to ensure early diagnosis and treatment.
The offering brings a number of benefits to employers and employees:
Immediate absence management services maximise the likelihood of quick recovery while improving staff morale and retention
Uninsured costs such as sick pay, recruiting and training temporary staff, and paying overtime to existing staff can be controlled and reduced
Close monitoring of absence trends can be a valuable tool in helping to prevent illness and injury in the future
Reducing exposure to claims cost improves loss experience and helps to control premium spend
Priority access to the best medical facilities reduces employee anxiety and inconvenience
Stephen Roberts, Head of UK Claims, commented:
"Brit Absence Management and Rehabilitation has been designed to bring peace of mind to insureds and their employees. Around 30 million days are lost in Britain each year due to work-related injury or illness, at an estimated cost of £30 billion to businesses. By adding this product to our EL cover, we can protect and improve our customers’ productivity and help them maintain a loyal workforce.
The service offers a unique way for employers to promote healthy employees while maintaining a healthy balance sheet."
